How Makeup Can Have a Positive Impact
Written By Zoe Roublev
It’s been physiologically proven time and time again that make-up can and does have a positive impact on one’s self. From the lipstick effect to the glow up effect, the tests ultimately all end up with the same results, that when you apply make-up, you’re overall a happier person. Let’s be real, we all know that feeling we get when we put on make-up, that happier, more confident version of ourselves. It’s like applying a mixture of magic to your face which we know will ultimately not only boost our confidence but will also make us feel more attractive. A mixture of delightful and wonderful products which will afterward increase our feelings, our sense self-esteem, motivation, attitude, personality, honestly the list of positive benefits goes on and on.
Whether it’s to start your day, or night, make-up works wonders on our souls and can therefore not only make the days easier to tackle but creates a more positive outlook and approach on life. Which, as for life. Well, life is hard. So, anything that can help us get through life, being and feeling like we are the best versions of ourselves can only be a good thing, right? Right! If we think back on the past twelve months for example, it could be said that they were the hardest, most challenging times you or me or anyone has faced yet in this Century.
Covid-19 pushed people’s lives in every direction, with hits not only taken to our ‘normal’ ways of living but also to the way in which we lived. It pushed our confidence, personalities and self-esteem to our limits. COVID-19 took the world as we knew it and completely turned it on its head, with unprecedented times, periods of isolation and seclusion. We saw closures of businesses and the shake of daily life and routine, so it was no wonder that this took a massive hit on us as individuals, mostly when it came to our sanity and well staying on track, especially when considering your sense of motivation and self-confidence.
I know for me personally, getting up in the mornings were challenging as I not only had nowhere physically to go, but trying to find any form of motivation to carry out work from home (and I don’t mean folding washing) was rough. For me however, it was within in these times that I personally relied heavily on the application of make-up (and a full face of make up at that) in order to get me not only through the day and the tasks that I needed to complete but to give me the motivation and sense of self love and pride that I needed in order to do so, whilst not losing my mind or completely forgetting about the goals and objectives that I had set for myself at the start of the year completely.
Let’s be honest, throughout isolation there were days when I didn’t shower, let alone get up and of out of bed! I seriously thought, what for, what’s the point. And to be honest, if it wasn’t for make-up, I don’t think I would have personally got through it. However, once I changed my perception and “got ready for the day” by applying make-up EVERY DAY, it was then that my days changed. Not only was I firstly up and out of bed, but I was fresh, vibrant and ready for anything. The application of make up during isolation got me through the hard days of not being able to go anywhere yet feeling ready for anything. The glow up effect totally transformed my days. During 2020 I was a student at Griffith University and all of our courses transitioned from on-campus to online. I lost motivation and as we all did (I’m sure) I drank a whole lot more wine.
I lost focus of my goals because I wasn’t physically going anywhere and the makeshift office that I had set up in my lounge room was easily avoidable, especially when I had other things to distract myself with, like cooking or cleaning. It wasn’t until I started applying a full face of make-up daily that my days changed. I told myself get ready and dressed like I usually would, so that I had some kind of control over my regular routine (despite me actually having no control). You see when I had make-up on, I felt ready. My confidence increased in being able to tackle online learning and I started working out times to study and schedule assessment plans, which as a result increased my attitude on learning. Although the glow-up effect worked for me during the most unprecedented times I will probably ever face, it was a full face of make-up that worked for me.
Without a solid layer (or two) of foundation and ensuring that my brows were on point I would never have been able to pull it together. Ultimately were only human and we all need that encouragement and that special something to make us feel good about ourselves and make-up is such a positive option. Whether your glammed right up or just running a basic day look, never forget how much the application of make-up can change your life, especially when you’re having a crappy day!
